From Dead Pigs

  • Blood
  • Fresh Tissues
    • -Tonsil, Spleen, Lymph Nodes
    -Lung
    - Brain
    - Kidney
    - Ileum

From Live Pigs

  • Serum
  • Blood in EDTA
  • Faeces if enteric disease suspected
  • Nasal swabs

Aditional, if Vesicles are Present

  • Vesicular fluid
  • Vesicle epithelium: 1-2cm
  • Nasal, oral and tonsillar swabs

Points to remember

  • Sample representative animals
  • Sample several animals
    • - Take serum for serology from in-contact animals and recovered animals
    - Sample sick animals
    - Don’t be conservative
